Classes in each series will meet 10-11:30 AM Wednesdays and Saturdays. Participants may attend either session.

• Series 1:  5 weeks, October 1 to November 1
  • Subject:  Parables from Jesus
  • This series will examine these little stories to see what they tell us about the mind of Jesus. Janet will use lecture, translating parables from Jesus time to ours, laying parables beside phrases in the Lords Prayer, finding ourselves in parable characters, and other interactive methods to transfer Jesus insight into Gods character and expectations into our own minds and hearts. Selected readings will be provided.

  • Participants must commit to serving as Stephen ministers. An information meeting will be held for those interested to learn more about Stephen Ministry.

• Series 3:  5 weeks, January 14 - February 11
  • Subject:  Back to Basics and Beyond
  • Topics include Big Biblical Ideas; How was the Bible Formed; What does it Really Mean to Call the Bible The Word of God; How Did the Biblical Canon Get Shaped (and how do our beliefs get shaped?); What Did the Prophets and Jesus Teach about the Kingdom?

• Series 4:  Lent - 6 weeks, February 25-April 4
  • Subject:  Freeing the Synoptic Gospels -- Exploring their Historical and Biblical Roots
  • Designed for adults AND interested young adults, this series will examine these little stories to see what they tell us about the mind of Jesus.
  • The leader will guide participants through Mark, Matthew & Luke with a brief look at John. The focus will be on the early Christian communitys proclamation about the One they called the Messiah and what those stories mean for us in the 21st century.
  • No book is required but participants may want to purchase and read Liberating the Gospels by John Shelby Spong. A sign-up sheet will be in the Narthex after the first of the year to order copies of the book. The cost is $12.
