Church of the Red Rocks is the only Stephen Ministry affiliated congregation in Northern Arizona...and one of few in Arizona!
More than a million people have been cared for by a Stephen Minister since 1975. Stephen Ministers are trained and supervised by lay caregivers to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation (and community) who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. This can be a life crisis such as hospitalization, retirement, death of a loved one, divorce, sudden custody of grandchildren, unemployment, aging, birth of a child, empty nest, loneliness or any other transitional issue in one's daily life.
The Stephen Ministry concept began in 1975 when the Rev. Kenneth C. Haugk, Ph.D. and a pastor and clinical psychologist, trained nine lay persons at his congregation in St. Louis to be Stephen Ministers. Over the years Dr. Haugk began a not-for-profit, transdenominational, religious organization to train others to provide this distinctly Christian care.
